Ronald ReaganRonald Reagan would tell us the greatness of our nation is not found in the halls of government but in the hearts of Americans who love our nation and who would want us to confront the challenges we face with courage, conviction and confidence. I humbly submit myself to Hoosiers across this state with this charge and this is why I ask you to support my candidacy for Indiana’s voice in the United States Senate.

BATES STATEMENT ON SATURDAY NIGHT HEALTHCARE VOTE

Anderson, IN - In the dark of night during a rare Saturday vote, Evan Bayh, ignoring the voices of Hoosiers who have clearly objected to the socialization of our Health Care, supported the partisan health care bill that Harry Reid created in secret behind closed doors -- a government-run health care plan that increases premiums, increases taxes, cuts Medicare, and allows for taxpayer-funded abortions.

"Tonight's vote proves once again what I have been saying on the campaign trail, that Evan Bayh cannot and will not stand against the president and his party's socialist agenda.  We need a Senator who will put Hoosiers, not party and career first." Bates said.

While many Senators who voted for this measure called it a harmless procedural vote, experts disagree. According to the nonpartisan Congressional Research Service, bills that pass procedural tests like the one tonight have a 97.6 percent chance of passing the Senate.
